So we had to cancel our Kickstarter campaign. We unfortunately didn’t garner enough support for us to move forward with printing and distribution at this time. And in looking at the number of campaign followers, it was pretty clear that we wouldn’t come close enough to the minimum amount we were hoping to raise.
Let’s look at this in terms of our game.
Bashes are one great aspect of Havoc! The Combat Card Game. You can make all the “right” decisions in your fight, but the fickle gods Blunder and Chance might have a different idea. One way this happens in Havoc! is the Bash Condition – a serious combat effect ranging from being shoved slightly Off Balance to being completely Laid Out and knocked silly. In game terms, Bash Conditions escalate, so minor Bashes will force you to Pause in the next Impulse, while more serious Bashes provide extra To Hit bonuses for your opponent and the most serious Bash forces you to discard your entire Hand and make a dice roll in order to recover (not an easy thing to do when your opponent has the chance to whale on you while you’re trying to stand up). Bashes are great when you deliver them to your opponent, but not so hot when you’re on the receiving end.
It’s pretty interesting watching players respond to Bashes. We’ve seen some playtesters just throw in the towel and basically give up after a minor setback. Others struggle a bit with the disruption, but try to stay in the fight. A few just shrug off the Bash and come roaring back.
Anyway, in game terms, we think we’ve been Bashed. Here’s the applicable Bash Card –
This specific Bash Condition is a minor Bash that can be overcome with some persistence and drive. While we certainly would have liked a strong Kickstarter Launch, sometimes Blunder and Chance have their say. So we’re going to Pause, take a step back, and figure out how to make a more successful launch. It’s clear we need to do a better job getting the word out about this great game, and so we’re going to focus on that for the time being.
We’ll keep you posted about our plans to roll out Havoc! The Combat Card Game. Thanks!
