Havoc!’s Campaigns & Skirmishes

We’re getting closer and closer towards getting Havoc! into your hands, so i thought now would be a good time to preview Havoc!’s Campaigns & Skirmishes (often abbreviated as C&S). Today’s update will run thru a short video of the printed product, and also share a few photos of the supplement.

Btw, if you’re interested in a closer look at the playmats and how they’re used, you can check out this video on YouTube!

Havoc!’s Campaigns & Skirmishes consists of three parts (each will be previewed below): (1) Campaigns, including guidance for playing Havoc! solo; (2) Skirmish adjustments for fights with lots of fighters; and (3) a Combat Example showing a Skirmish in action with card plays and such.

The Campaigns section of C&S consists of guidance for playing the Campaigns (including a scoring system for repeat play) and then twenty separate Campaigns. Each Campaign consists of seven fights – these are broken down into four “Eras” with two fights for three Eras and then the ultimate boss fight. The fights are increasingly tough. In our playtesting, we have not yet had a single fighter make it all the way through a Campaign without restarting. With the twenty separate Campaigns, there are more than 140 individual Havoc! fights you can play solo or with friends. Why “more than 140” fights? Because some Campaigns allow for different combinations of Weapons, which will drive different choices for the 25-Card Decks of Combat Action Cards (and thus, different fighting styles). Here’s a snapshot of a few Campaigns in C&S:

One sidenote on the Campaigns – we introduce a few new Foes like the Skeleton Warrior, the Giant Snake, and a pretty buff Demon Giant. We include the stats for these fighters and the art for one, so you’ll be able to construct their Decks and use them as Havoc! fighters. These aren’t yet actual Foe Cards, but we’re working on including these (and a bunch of others) in the ttrpg we’re developing (more ont ah that in another post).

Onto Skirmishes. In Havoc!, a Skirmish is any fight involving 4 or more Combatants. C&S introduces some adjustments for running Skirmishes, as well as some detailed examples on how these adjustments actually work. Here’s a peek at the Skirmish section:

In our own gaming, we moved into Skirmishes pretty quick because, well, our own gaming involves a lot of epic fantasy ttrpg stuff and Heroes often face daunting odds. In our playtesting and our own gaming, we’ve found that Skirmishes move quickly once everybody is familiar with the rules and their fighters.

What would a Havoc! supplement be without a Combat Example? It wouldn’t be a Havoc! supplement, of course, so we include pretty lengthy (about 16 pages) Combat Example to show you both how Havoc!works and how the Skirmish adjustments work. This Combat Example is one we actually played out, and it highlights the talents of the three fighters in the Free Havoc! Duel Decks – Grimm Sibbe the Knight, Ardith the Warrior, and Hadd the Rogue. These Adventurers take on four Hobgoblins and it is a pretty tough fight. You’ll see the card plays for both sides, the dice rolls, and the results. Here are a couple shots:

And that’s the overview of Havoc!’s Campaigns & Skirmishes. Just a quick note on the details – C&S is a digital reward, so you’ll be getting a high resolution PDF that you can then print out on your own or send to an outside printer. Like Free Havoc! and the Quick Start Guide, C&S is laid out in a saddlestitch format. It numbers 64 pages, so if you’re interested in getting it printed out, you can send it to your online printer of choice and get that done. We’re not certain as to whether we will be offering actual physical copies of C&S in the future – we’re exploring options for publising on Amazon or other online marketplaces, so it’s possible we’ll do that. Anyway, i just wanted to be clear that, even though i’m showing printed excerpts of C&S in this post, the reward you’ll get is a digital reward.

And a quick word about fulfillment status – the printer corrected the minor packing errors and Havoc! is moving forward. Everything is now teed up with our freight forwarder and fulfillment company, so i’m expecting the print run to be loaded up and headed to the boat soon. When exactly? I’m not sure – within the next week or two, i believe. As soon as i get confirmation that the shipment is loaded on the boat and headed to the United States, i will let you know.

As a final note, in the U.S. we’re heading into a long weekend for our annual Thanksgiving Holiday. At Havoc Games, we have A LOT to be thankful for – most of all, your support and vote of confidence! Without your help, Havoc! would have been doomed to the Island of Lost Games and Good Ideasso thank you, thank you, thank you! Jason and i really appreciate your support and we can’t wait to get Havoc! into your hands!
